Arsenal have made contact over the possible signing of Paris Saint-Germain left-back Juan Bernat, a report claims.
Bernat is out of contract at the end of the season, when he will bring an end to his three-year stay in Paris.
The former Valencia and Bayern Munich full-back has had few opportunities this season. Therefore, he is ready for a fresh challenge.
Arsenal are in need of a new left-back to provide competition with Kieran Tierney. They allowed Sead Kolasinac to leave in January but did not sign a replacement.
Therefore, they are now working to ensure they have enough cover in the full-back areas next season. There have been links with a number of left-sided defenders.
Bernat is the latest name to emerge as a possible option. The 27-year-old would bring plenty of experience to the Emirates Stadium and is still in the prime years of his career.
According to Todofichajes, Arsenal have made contact with his agent. Aware that a number of other teams also want Bernat, they are keen to make an early offer.
Barcelona are currently the leading contenders to sign the Spain international. However, they may not be able to afford his wage demands.
Sevilla are also interested in Bernat, but Arsenal are apparently eager to act quickly and find a pre-contract agreement as early as next month.
Whether they are able to remains to be seen. They also have a number of other names on their shortlist, but Bernat is apparently near the top.
Some of the other players to have been linked in that position have been Ryan Bertrand and Jordan Amavi.
Those two players are also out of contract at the end of the season. It seems Arsenal are aiming to find a cost-effective solution.

Arsenal also after right-backs
Reports elsewhere suggest that Arsenal are also looking to strengthen the other side of their defence as well.
With doubts over the future of main right-back Hector Bellerin, the Gunners may need a replacement.
Bellerin has coincidentally been linked with Bernat’s current club, PSG. If he does make such a move, then Arsenal will also need to reinforce at right-back.
As such, they have identified two possible targets ahead of the summer.
