Arsenal remain in the hunt for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, but will have to convince his current club to let him go, according to reports.

Vinicius has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal in recent months. The winger could help reignite their attack, which has not always been prolific this season.

With reinforcements potentially needed, Vinicius has been outlined as a player who could make a difference at the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian has only started eight games in La Liga this season and has even appeared to have been criticised by his teammates.

Therefore, a change of scenery could be on the cards. If that is to be the case, then Arsenal will be a prime suitor.

According to Defensa Central, Mikel Arteta still wants to bring Vinicius to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have therefore offered to take Vinicius on loan for the rest of the season.

It had been thought that Madrid could allow Vinicius and his Brazilian compatriot Rodrygo to leave on loan this month. However, that may not be the case with the 20-year-old.

The report adds that Real have rejected their offer and are not planning to get rid of Vinicius, either on loan or permanently.

In addition to his eight starts, Vinicius has come on as a substitute in seven La Liga games this season. That means he has only missed two league games in 2020-21, showing he is still a useful player for Zinedine Zidane.

Therefore, the Spanish champions are refusing to allow him to depart. But Arsenal are refusing to give up.

The report also states that Arsenal have told Madrid not to forget them if they change their mind about Vinicius. The Gunners remain interested and would be happy to take advantage if the situation changed.

As things stand, it seems Madrid will hold firm in their efforts to keep Vinicius. The attacker remains under contract until 2025, so could have a long-term future at the Bernabeu.

Indeed, even though his gametime has dropped slightly, Vinicius still wants to stay in the Spanish capital.
