Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says he is confident that Arsenal will not secure a deal to sign Houssem Aouar before the transfer window closes.
Aaour is reportedly among Gunners boss Mikel Arteta’s top targets as he targets a midfield revamp. The Spaniard reportedly wants the Frenchman and Thomas Partey in before the October deadline.
That double swoop is likely to cost in excess of £80million and Arsenal must sell before they can invest further.
Lyon sporting director Juninho insisted earlier this week that he has received no offers for the club’s star player. Now, Aulas has added weight to that claim, questioning Arteta and Arsenal’s desire to strike a deal.
Asked if he fears Aaour could leave before October 16, the Lyon president said (via Goal): “No I don’t think so, no offer yet.
“It seems that Arsenal don’t want to, or can’t invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player.”
It remains unclear whether Arsenal are awaiting further funds before pressing ahead with a move for Aouar. The Gunners have several players on their transfer shortlist, including midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The Uruguayan is a target for Torino, although complications remain over the structure of a potential deal.
Meanwhile, TEAMtalk has revealed how Arteta has informed Sead Kolasinac that he is free to find a new club.
West Ham are keen on the Bosnian, with Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Roma all also holding an interest.
Reports elsewhere claim Arteta would favour a move for Aouar if a double swoop for the 22-year-old and Partey became impossible.
Arteta hails ‘lucky’ win over West Ham
Arsenal, like the rest of their Premier League opponents, are balancing transfers with the new season in full swing.
The Gunners made it two wins from two after Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Ham, with Eddie Nketiah securing all three points in the second half.
However, Arteta has admitted that his side were “lucky” to win.
