Tottenham Hotspurs welcomed a visiting Arsenal side in a North London derby to the Tottenham stadium. Arsenal who is just a point above Spurs in the 8th place and Tottenham in 9th respectively were both looking to grab all three points and extend the lead amongst them. The match started with a minute of silence for former Leeds United player, and English legend Jack Charlton who passed away at the age of 85.
The match started with a very fast attack from Tottenham but was saved by Arsenal’s Emiliano Martinez. The home side dominated most of the possession in the first 15 minutes of the match as the away side tried to gain balance and get into the game. A pass from Granit Xhaka was all that was needed for Alexander Lacazette to give Arsenal the lead in the 16th minute courtesy of a screamer from over 20 yards.
While Arsenal were still celebrating their goal, a defensive error from Sead Kolasinac saw Heung-Min Son, pounce on it and level the scores for a Spurs side at home. Both sides kept trying to convert chances created but that was all the first half could offer as the scores remained 1 – 1 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
Referee Michael Oliver restarted the game in the second half and a Tottenham attack was subdued by the Arsenal defense. While Arsenal had most of the second-half possession, Tottenham created the most chance but couldn’t convert them.
A shot by Lucas Moura was sent to the left-side corner by Emiliano Martinez, Heung-Min Son was on hand to play in the corner and find the head of Toby Alderweireld who put Spurs in front in the 81st minute.
Tottenham now sit two points above Arsenal in the 8th position with 52 points as a result of their victory, and Arsenal remain on 9th position with 50 points and have now lost their first game in six matches.Click here to leave a comment
