Gary Neville feels four Manchester United stars a key to a “massive mentality shift” within the squad following the international break.

United began the season in shaky form, losing two of their opening three Premier League games.

Indeed, aside from those losses to Crystal Palace and Tottenham, they were lucky to take three points from Brighton.

The 6-1 thrashing to Spurs was the last game before October’s international break and, tellingly, United have not lost since.

What’s more, they have conceded only two goals and Neville feels there are certain players responsible for the upturn in form.

Indeed, after describing the “massive mentality shift” with the change in results, the pundit told Monday Night Football: “Coming out of the international break, what is the big difference?

“The big difference is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this week to what served him well last season.

“It’s that box – (Victor) Lindelof, (Harry) Maguire, Fred (and) (Scott) McTominay. They’ve all got a defensive mindset, they’re all quick at getting to the ball, particularly those two in front of those centre-backs.

Scott McTominay TEAMtalk

“So every time those Man Utd attacked and the ball broke to Chelsea, they were all over them like a rash.

“Look how aggressive they are, they’re quick to the ball, they’re quick to react and quick to recycle it.”

Neville made the comments after claiming that Solskjaer “privately” knew what his best midfield three was.

Indeed, the United boss has fielded Fred and McTominay and Fred behind Bruno Fernandes on three occasions this season.

That is more than any other partnership and means Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Donny van de Beek have struggled for game time.

Meanwhile, Netherlands legend Marco van Basten says Van de Beek will regret his move to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman is yet to make a Premier League start for his new club and did not feature at all against Chelsea.

As such, Van Basten has already predicted that his compatriot will be wishing he had joined a different club.
