Roy Hodgson wasn’t surprised that Crystal Palace scored three goals against Manchester United in a win to savour at Old Trafford.
Palace were the visitors for United’s first game of the season. And Hodgson’s men made life more than difficult for their hosts, clinching a 3-1 win.
It means Palace have won both of their Premier League games so far, after beating Southampton last week in the season opener.
And Hodgson thinks the upset at Old Trafford was fully deserved for Palace.
“I thought that both defensively and offensively we were good,” he told Match of the Day.
“We made certain and kept them playing in front of us and they could not profit from those spaces they are skilful enough to find.
“And when we had the ball I thought we looked very dangerous and threatening so I don’t think it was a big surprise that we scored three.”
‘You need to play on the front foot’
Hodgson continued by adding that he never intended for Palace to just defend.
“When you come here you need to show you are going to play on the front foot and not just defend and let them do what they want on the ball. We started in the right way and finished in the right way.
“We were concerned about them getting behind our back four which they didn’t do.”
Despite the positive start, Hodgson is not getting carried away. That’s because their next two fixtures will be against other challenging opponents.
“We need to be very careful because Everton are in extremely good form and then we go to Chelsea, so the next two games will be equally hard for us to get anything from.”
