Chelsea boss Frank Lampard insists the “noise” around a possible transfer for Callum Hudson-Odoi will not pressure him into playing the winger.

Bayern Munich have tried to sign the winger in the last two transfer windows.

He was the subject of intense interest from Bayern in the summer with Chelsea turning down a loan move with a £70m purchase clause.

The Bundesliga side are understood to be still monitoring the 20-year-old and could make a renewed attempt to lure him to Germany in January.

Lampard has used the player sparingly, but did say he was “improving” after he scored his third goal of the season against Rennes last week.

However, he was then left out of the matchday squad altogether for Sunday’s draw against Tottenham and Lampard says it was a tough conversation to hold.

“For every squad I have to leave out four or five players maybe per game and if I went through the permutations of all of them, how they feel and the risk of it, I wouldn’t make a decision and I wouldn’t be able to do the job.

“I’m aware with Callum where he’s at. He took it [being left out against Tottenham] very well. It’s not an easy conversation. All players want to play, I expect that and he’ll get his opportunities,” said Lampard.

Hudson-Odoi is set to feature against Sevlla tomorrow night with Chelsea already having booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages. Lampard though will let the reported intertest in Hudson-Odoi force  him into giving the England man more game time.

“He’ll get minutes tomorrow and it is up to him to keep showing when he plays that he deserves to start because there is competition in that area. That’s the reality of playing for Chelsea.

“So I’m not worried about the noise around it or what might the permutations of not being in the squad might mean down the line,” added Lampard.

Lopetegui hails Chelsea

Meanwhile, Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has hailed Chelsea as the Premier League’s best attacking team ahead of Wednesday’s meeting between the sides in Spain.

Lopetegui claimed before his team’s Group E opener at Stamford Bridge in October that Frank Lampard’s Blues were among the favourites for the Champions League title, and he has not changed his mind.

Both sides have already secured qualification for the knockout stage and head into the encounter battling to top the pool. And Lopetegui is excited by a stern examination of his team’s credentials.

“It’s a huge and exciting challenge against a team who could win the Champions League,” the former Spain coach said.

“They are the best attacking team in England at the moment, they have great players.

“It’s a real excitement to play against them and it motivates us to play our best.”
