Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his assistant Pep Lijnders reportedly made no secret of their admiration for Diogo Jota during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

Jota’s header gave the Reds a priceless comeback win at Anfield over the Blades, who made it tough for their hosts.

The Portuguese‘s goal was his second under Klopp in only seven games and, indeed, his second on home turf.

Speaking after the game, Klopp insisted that Jota was already very “close” to the level he needs to reach. What’s more, such progression is a marker of his personality and work ethic, the coach said.

However, The Independent has now revealed what Klopp and Lijnders said to each other after Jota’s goal on Saturday.

Conversing in the Liverpool dugout, Lijnders reportedly said: “Phwoar, what a player”, with Klopp replying “and what a person”.

The newspaper also reveals further background into why Liverpool paid £41million to sign the winger.

In their hunt to provide support to their front three, the Reds were looking for key traits, including a strong dribbling ability and someone built for a high-pressing system.

Jota was reportedly ‘the answer to everything’ and so Liverpool could not turn down the opportunity.

What’s more, Liverpool chiefs reportedly feel Jota’s immediate impact at the club is ‘amazing’. Indeed, they have noticed the 23-year-old’s ability to slot in in what is a shortened and demanding season.

In his post-match comments about Jota, Klopp said Jota has a “bright” future and hailed his “likeable” nature.

He added: “Then the player he is: he is quick, he has the physicality, he is strong, he is good in the air, he is good on the ground… a lot of good things, he has exactly the quality we need, so that helps a lot.”

Meanwhile, another Liverpool player who has hit the ground running this season is Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian has scored six Premier League goals so far and looks in fine form under Klopp.

Indeed, captain Jordan Henderson feels that he is replicating the same form he showed in his magical first season.
