Liverpool have joined the hunt for a €60m centre-back who is a major target for Tottenham, while Inter Milan are keen on signing three Chelsea stars – all in Friday’s Euro Paper Talk.
KLOPP TURNS TO INTER STAR TO FILL VAN DIJK VOID
Liverpool are reportedly looking to beat Jose Mourinho and Tottenham to the signing of Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar in the January transfer window.
Spurs chased the Slovakian international for final weeks leading up to the summer deadline, but were unable to get a deal over the line.
Inter were demanding that their €60million valuation of the player be met. That figure was too high for Tottenham transfer chief Daniel Levy, who was looking to pay around half of that figure.
Mourinho’s men landed Swansea prospect Joe Rodon instead, but they are expected to try their luck again for Skriniar in the new year.
However, ESPN claims they will now have to battle with the Reds for the player’s signature.
Liverpool failed to replace Dejan Lovren over the summer and have been hit by the hammer blow of potentially losing Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season.
Midfielder Fabinho has stepped in and looked comfortable in the role, but he is also on the sidelines – leaving Jurgen Klopp to blood youngsters Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
Both players are tremendous prospects, but Klopp is expected to try and find a more experienced defender to fill the Van Dijk void.
Skriniar has made over 150 appearances in Serie A for Sampdoria and Inter and also appeared more than 30 times for his country.
He is most comfortable playing in a back four, despite Inter boss Antonio Conte often using him in a three.
The 25-year-old is a commanding presence who is comfortable in possession, and despite not quite being on Van Dijk’s level, he would be an potentially impressive addition for the reigning Premier League champions.
