Liverpool have registered initial interest in signing Wolves forward Diogo Jota as back-up to their famed front three, according to a report.

Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah recently hit a combined tally of 250 goals for the Reds. However, there is a distinct lack of support behind the trio.

Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have shown their talents in several iconic moments but, by and large, have failed to provide sufficient competition.

Previous reports have claimed Watford attacker Sarr is an ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp. TEAMtalk has revealed how Manchester United also hold an interest in the Senegalese.

According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce, however, Liverpool have now registered initial interest in a deal for Jota. Daily Mail reporter Dominic King, meanwhile, backs up those claims, indicating he is an alternative to Sarr.

Jota signed for Wolves in 2018 from Atletico Madrid, after a loan spell at Molineux in the previous campaign.

He has scored 44 goals for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in all competitions. Last term, he netted 16 goals and provided six assists in 48 games.

NUNO TIGHT-LIPPED ON JOTA ABSENCE

Nuno Espirito Santo remained tight-lipped about why Diogo Jota was left out of the squad for Wolves’ Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke on Thursday.

Jota was a surprise omission having been an unused substitute for Monday’s Premier League win at Sheffield United but Nuno did not offer the reason.

He said: “He wasn’t available, these are decisions we have to make. We have to prepare the squad.

“It was a big turnaround, we have to take care of the players, improve our squad and our team and he was not available for the game. These are our decisions to make.

“He was not on the squad list. There was no confusion. When a player is not on the squad list sometimes they see the match, if they are away, they stay at home.

“It’s because we have a bubble, we have to make a list, all those details. Nothing strange.”

HOEVER SET FOR WOLVES SWITCH

Meanwhile, young Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever is set to move in the opposite direction.

The 18-year-old only signed a new long-term contract last summer, after his 2018 move from Ajax.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool insiders were initially keen to send him out on loan for the current campaign.

The newspaper claims, though, that they have changed their minds and are close to agreeing his permanent exit.
