Thiago Alcantara did not suffer a serious injury in Liverpool’s draw with Everton, but will still miss their Champions League opener against Ajax.
Thiago was on the receiving end of a rash challenge from Richarlison towards the end of the Merseyside derby on Saturday. The Everton culprit was shown a red card for the offence.
Richarlison has since apologised for his actions, but his words would be of little comfort to Liverpool if they were to lose their summer signing for a sustained period of time.
Fortunately for their sake, it appears that will not be the case. According to the Liverpool Echo, Thiago has not suffered a serious injury.
The regional newspaper reports that Thiago will miss Liverpool’s game against Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Tests have confirmed that the former Bayern Munich midfielder’s injury is not as serious as feared, but he will definitely miss their next game.
After that, Liverpool will monitor his condition more closely before deciding when he can return.
Van Dijk ACL injury confirmed
While the news is more promising for Thiago, the update about Virgil Van Dijk – who also suffered an injury against Everton – made for worse reading.
Liverpool have confirmed that the defender has suffered an ACL injury, which will definitely rule him out for months, and potentially the rest of the season.
However, in their club statement, the Premier League champions did not commit to how long Van Dijk will be out for.
