Diogo Dalot has hinted he would like to return to Manchester United to make up for the “bittersweet” feeling about his first spell with the club.

Dalot joined United from Porto in 2018, but injuries hampered his development. He only made 20 Premier League appearances across his first two seasons in Manchester.

Therefore, the club decided to let him leave on loan in the summer. Dalot moved to AC Milan, where he is showing signs of revival.

The full-back only started one Serie A match before Christmas, but is hoping to kick on after making an impact in the Europa League. He started all six games of the group stage, providing one goal and two assists.

There have already been rumours that Milan would like to keep Dalot at the end of his loan spell. However, United still have him under contract until 2023.

Dalot has managed to build up a decent rapport with both fanbases, although he is only focusing on impressing his current club.

He told Record (via Sport Witness): “It is always positive to see the feedback from Milan fans and the affection that United fans have for me. It’s fantastic to feel that.

“But my focus is solely and exclusively on the present. The gift is Milan and helping the club to fulfil its goals and mine. It wouldn’t be professional to be otherwise.”

Dalot wanted to play more for United

Now Dalot is beginning to show why United invested in him again, though, he admitted he would like to return to Old Trafford to prove himself there again.

He responded: “Of course, the feeling is a little deeper, more because I didn’t have the time I liked physically.

“I spent great moments at United. I played very important games for me and the team.

“I left with a bit of a bittersweet feeling for not being physically available for all those games I lost due to injury. But it is what it is.

“I wouldn’t change anything because what I learned was very important for my future and how I am now. I don’t regret it or look back with disappointment.”
