Manchester United have negotiated a deal with Uruguay-based side Atletico Penarol to sign rising star winger Facundo Pellistri, according to a report.
United have so far only made one major signing this transfer window, with Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax.
However they have invested heavily in their youth ranks; prized Barcelona youngster Marc Jurado has signed, as has Alejandro Garnacho from Atletico Madrid.
According to Uruguayan football expert Sebastian Giovanelli, Pellistri could be next on the list.
The journalist claims (via Twitter) that the Red Devils have agreed a five-year deal with Penarol to sign the starlet.
However there reportedly remains a disagreement over when the transfer will take place. Penarol want Pellistri to stay until January, with United keen to add him to their ranks now.
As such, the forward – as it stands – will be staying in Uruguay unless United can convince Penarol to do business early.
Pellistri earned a promotion from Penarol’s Under-19s side in January 2019. Since then, he has made 37 outings and scored four goals, assisting two others.
In 2020, meanwhile, he has netted one goal and laid on two others for teammates.
Previous reports have claimed he is a target for Manchester City and Newcastle.
As well as Jurado and Garnacho, United have also brought in Manchester City youngster Charlie McNeill.
Garnacho and McNeill will initially join up with the club’s Under-18s side, hoping to rise through the ranks in the coming seasons.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to promote a number of exciting youngsters during his tenure. Indeed Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams are now established first-team regulars.
Solskjaer struggling to land top signings
While United now have no shortage of potential future stars in their ranks, they have struggled to add significant signings to their first team.
Winger Jadon Sancho is a top target, but Borussia Dortmund’s £108million asking price is a stumbling block.
Meanwhile a deal to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles before Monday’s transfer deadline also looks unlikely.
