Manchester United are willing to let Sergio Romero leave the club for half of their current valuation, according to a report.

Romero has endured a frustrating recent few months at Old Trafford, culminating in his absence from United’s Premier League and Champions League squads.

The Argentina goalkeeper reportedly declared his exit wishes when Dean Henderson arrived back at Old Trafford. However, he failed to get a move away in the recent transfer window.

Indeed, the Sunday Mirror claims that the Red Devils wanted £5million for the 33-year-old. No party, including Leeds, was willing to match that fee, though.

However, United have not given up and, as such, the club could let him go for ‘as little as £2.5million’.

What’s more, Old Trafford chiefs could trigger the one-year extension in his contract to maintain his value. Should that happen, his deal would end in the summer of 2022.

As it stands, though, Romero will leave as a free agent at the end of next season. Should his situation remain the same, he would be able to discuss terms with a new club in January.

Romero’s wife put her husband’s troubles further into the limelight towards the end of the recent window. She demanded on social media that United pay her partner respect.

More recent reports suggested that relations between the goalkeeper and United have diminished. In particular, Romero reportedly learned of his double squad snub via social media as opposed to talks with the club.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News suggests that United will also use the upcoming January window to finance exits for more players.

Defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo remain on the fringes, with sufficient game time unlikely for both.

United midfielder Fernandes uses the tactic to great effect, with a brilliant record from 12 yards.

But former Arsenal forward Wright feels that the methods that such players employ make life unfair for goalkeepers.
