Mauricio Pochettino would transform Manchester United’s players and turn the team into a frightening force, according to one pundit.

Pressure is mounting on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Wednesday’s damaging Champions League defeat.

The 2-1 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir was their second in a row and, after recent wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, puts Solskjaer’s immediate future back in the spotlight.

Indeed, Saturday’s clash with an Everton side who have also lost two on the bounce looks make-or-break.

Amid the uncertainty, however, United have reportedly made contact with former Tottenham boss Pochettino. The Argentine is out of a permanent job after leaving Spurs last November.

Speaking to talkSPORT, pundit Jamie O’Hara outlined how the former manager would work wonders at Old Trafford.

“I think you’ve got to give Pochettino massive respect for what he has done at Spurs,” O’Hara said. “He didn’t win anything and I think that is probably the biggest regret that he has got.

“He took that football club, with no budget and without any players, producing young players and playing exciting football, made him world-class.

“He made Tottenham a top-four side every season and he got them to a Champions League final. For me, he is the fourth-best manager in England right now and he hasn’t got a job.

“Klopp, Guardiola and Mourinho. I would have Pochettino in most football clubs. How can you not say he is unbelievable?

“Put him in Manchester United‘s squad and they would go to another dimension.”

More damaging stats for Solskjaer

Despite losing two in a row – including Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal – there are more worrying stats for Solskjaer.

His team sit 15th in the Premier League and have not won any of their last six matches at home.

And while their run of 10 away wins since a defeat to Liverpool had been lifting the gloom, Wednesday’s loss ended that run.
