Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is attempting to make the most of his limited transfer budget by acquiring a pair of Premier League stars from Chelsea and Leicester.

Newcastle have endured a difficult campaign thus far, but produced a spirited performance last time out to secure a point against Liverpool.

Staving off relegation will be the ultimate goal come season’s end, and one surefire way to aid that objective is through the transfer market.

Funds are once again expected to be tight for Bruce, meaning the loan market will be a likely avenue to explore.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Bruce is eyeing up a double loan swoop to bolster his squad with a pair of English talents.

Firstly, Chelsea centre-half Fikayo Tomori is in focus.

Bruce is said to have been ‘asking’ about the 23-year-old who has slipped further down the pecking order since Thiago Silva’s arrival.

Tomori has accrued just 44 minutes of league action this season. And with Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen already vying for a spot alongside Silva, a loan exit would seemingly be feasible.

Secondly, Leicester’s holding midfielder Hamza Choudhury is linked.

The Englishman, also 23, has been limited to mainly Europa League starts. Only three appearances in the league have been forthcoming, though his most recent in late-December was from the start as Brendan Rodgers shuffled his pack.

The article reports that Choudhury is ‘eager’ to play more regularly with Rodgers ‘willing’ to consider offers.

Newcastle Utd and Southampton are also tipped as interested parties in Choudhury.

Lampard reveals Chelsea transfer ‘ideas’

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says that he has “ideas” about guiding the club through this month’s “long” transfer window.

The Blues proved to be the Premier League’s biggest spenders in the previous market. Indeed, Chelsea laid out over £200million to bring in several marquee signings.

But while the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have impressed, the west Londoners have encountered a tough patch as they struggle for points.

Lampard’s men have only taken four points from their previous five Premier League games. As such, the head coach says that he has begun to have thoughts about the changes he could make in January.
