Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli could enjoy a fantastic return to form by signing for Manchester United under Mauricio Pochettino, according to one pundit.
Reports emerged this week that United have sounded out Pochettino as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor.
However, Solskjaer eased the pressure on himself with a crucial 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
Nevertheless, the speculation has continued and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has pictured a potential scenario in which former Spurs boss brings Alli to Old Trafford.
Alli was one of Tottenham’s most unmissable players under the Argentine. However, his form and game time have suffered this season under Jose Mourinho.
As such, should Pochettino take over from Solskjaer, Durham would like Alli to follow him.
“Now has come the time to break the ties with Tottenham Hotspur and move on for a different challenge, wherever that may be,” the presenter said (via the Daily Star).
“If there is a vacancy at Man Utd and Pochettino gets the job, I can see him taking Dele Alli there and revitalising him. Dele Alli has had his football heart broken by Jose Mourinho.
“What Jose needs to do to take Tottenham where he wants to go, there will be collateral damage along the way. And Dele Alli is part of that.”
Alli must consider his form
“So Dele Alli now has to sit down and look at himself and say, ‘hang on a minute, I have been, in my time, one of the Premier League’s better players. For a couple of seasons I was magnificent, and I want to get back to that. So I need to seek a move’.
“Whether that is abroad or to another Premier League club, clearly Mourinho doesn’t want him, so he won’t care where he goes,” Durham added.
Alli has only made six appearances in all competitions this season. Indeed, he has not made it into Spurs’ last three Premier League squads.
Meanwhile, he remained on the bench during Thursday’s Europa League win at Ludogorets.
