Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has given his approval to Spurs’ double swoop to sign Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

Tottenham are likely to confirm both signings later on Friday. Bale will mark a sensational return to north London after seven years at Real Madrid, while left-back Reguilon is an important addition.

Bale arrives back in London looking to resurrect his career. The Wales international‘s relations in Madrid continued to worsen in recent seasons.

Indeed, the situation reached boiling point when head coach Zinedine Zidane chose not to include him in his squad for the Champions League’s resumption in August.

Speaking to Partidazo de COPE (via the Metro), however, Pochettino insisted that the 31-year-old still has a lot to offer upon his return to the Premier League.

“Bale is a magnificent footballer at an age that still has strength as well as experience and maturity,” the Argentine said.

“He has been decisive in Madrid, he has won four European Cups, he has scored in important games.

“He has always been very affectionate with me.”

Reguilon, meanwhile, is likely to assume the starting berth at left-back ahead of Ben Davies.

Pochettino said of the Spaniard‘s signing: “It seems to me that he has a lot of spirit. He has great potential and will continue to grow.”

The former Spurs head coach also spoke about whether signing Bale was a possibility during his tenure.

He said: “There was never the possibility. Everything was focused on the construction of the stadium, but it would have been a great contribution for the team.”

The double signing will take Spurs’ number of first-team additions this transfer window to five.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined from Southampton, with Matt Doherty also signing from Wolves. Goalkeeper Joe Hart also moved to north London after leaving Burnley.

Meanwhile, current Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho says he can see midfielder Tanguy Ndombele making important progress.

The club’s record signing struggled with several fitness problems in his debut season last term.

However, he scored on Thursday to help Tottenham progress in Europa League qualifying action.

And Mourinho believes the Frenchman is now “in a process of evolution”.
