Former Norwich City striker and pundit Chris Sutton has urged a current squad star to think twice before exiting Carrow Road.

Canaries midfielder Emi Buendia has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this transfer window.

The attacking threat has notched seven goals and seven assists in the Championship so far this season.

This, combined with his impressive performances during the club’s Premier League plight last year, has pricked the ears of Mikel Arteta.

However, Sutton believes that Buendia should stay at Norwich until the end of the season at least.

“I would think the fact that Norwich showed great loyalty and faith in him [would convince him to stay],” he told BBC Radio 5 Live (via the Metro).

“I think he was playing in a Spanish second division team. They have made him.

“They have turned him into the player and given him the profile which he has now. Extremely talented player.

“All I have to say is that he has to see this season through. He owes it to Norwich City.”

Sutton went on to explain what he would do if he was in the situation Buendia finds himself in.

He continued: “If I was in his shoes, I would see it through. I would get Norwich back to the Premier League then I would say, ‘Thank you very much, Norwich City, you have been great for me and I have been great for you’.

“And then I’d go on my way and everybody is happy.”

Buendia is set to make his 100th Norwich appearance on Saturday when his side host Coventry City in the third round of the FA Cup.

He has netted 16 times since his arrival from Getafe in 2018, also tallying an incredible 32 assists.

Norwich boss comments on the speculation

Emi Buendia Daniel Farke TEAMtalk

Norwich City boss Daniel Farke has addressed the rumours surrounding his in-form player.

Buendia netted in the club’s 1-0 defeat of Barnsley at the weekend, prompting the Canaries boss to comment on the situation post-game.

“Emi is a key player for us, an important member of the group, and he is totally committed to us,” Farke said.

“He is our player and will continue to be our player. He is on a long-term contract so we keep him.

“Everyone knows his qualities – I don’t expect interest just because he scored a wondergoal today. People know what he can do.”

However, if Arsenal do come formally calling, it may be too big of an opportunity for 24-year-old Buendia to turn down.
