Marcus Rashford’s deflected shot secured a vital three points as Man Utd left it deep into injury-time before finally breaking the deadlock.

Both sides looked dangerous in the early going, with Adama Traore in particular looking back to his devastating best.

The speedy winger broke past a pair of Man Utd defenders before teeing up Pedro Neto. The Portuguese forward’s effort was straight at David de Gea, but it was an indication of the threat Wolves can still pose even without Raul Jimenez.

De Gea was quickly called into action twice more before seeing a Romain Saiss header bounce off the top of the crossbar from a Joao Moutinho free-kick.

Returning to their more familiar back three, Wolves were frustrating their opponents in the final third. Despite Bruno Fernandes’ best efforts, quality service to the likes of Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford was proving difficult to manufacture.

Their efforts finally brought an end product when Fernandes came close to notching the game’s first goal.

Superb work from Mason Greenwood down the right resulted in a cutback to Fernandes. From six-yards out, the playmaker’s connection wasn’t as he would’ve desired, though Rui Patricio still reacted well to keep out the central strike from very close range.

The contest began to open up as half-time neared, and it was the lively Neto that almost became the beneficiary.

Found in acres of space behind the line, Neto hared towards goal before a vital touch from the hastily retreating Harry Maguire averted the danger.

The break did no favours for the spectacle as both sides struggles to get up to speed in the second-half.

Daniel Podence and Anthony Martial were brought on as both managers shuffled their decks in search of what would likely be the game’s deciding goal.

That potential goal almost came in the 69th minute, but Cavani was correctly adjudged to have been offside after Eric Bailly’s flick-on from a corner.

The ball brushed off the hand of Conor Coady en route to the Uruguayan, but no penalty was forthcoming after a brief VAR review.

Pogba forced a smart diving stop from Patricio from range, before Martial blazed over following good work from his fellow Frenchman.

Wolves began to sit deep with the clock ticking down, seemingly content with an away point at Old Trafford.

That potential point evaporated late into injury time when Marcus Rashford’s deflected shot nestled inside the near post to hand Man Utd all three points.
