Manchester United have announced that left-back Alex Telles has signed from Porto on a four-year contract, with the option of an extra year.
Telles has been United’s top target in the hunt to provide left-back competition for some time. The 27-year-old was likely to leave Portugal, with less than one year remaining on his deal there.
Speaking to United’s official website, Telles explained how Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced him to move to Old Trafford.
“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour,” the Brazilian said.
“You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”
Solskjaer, meanwhile, highlighted the traits Telles has which he is confident will help improve his United side.
“First and foremost, I welcome Alex to United,” the Norwegian said. “He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
“He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.
“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
Man Utd doing business on deadline day
With Donny van de Beek being United’s only signing of the transfer window for some time, the Red Devils have been busy in the final days.
Edinson Cavani has agreed a deal, while young winger Amad Traore will likely move to Manchester in January.
United are also close to signing another young forward, as revealed by his club’s vice-president.
