West Ham have lodged an offer for Brentford winger Said Benrahma ahead of the domestic transfer deadline, according to reports.

The transfer window may have closed earlier this month, but Premier League clubs can still do business with EFL sides until October 16th.

That could allow top flight teams to lure talent away from the Championship – and West Ham have already been thinking about doing so in their search for a new defender.

Now, it appears they want to take an attacker from the second tier as well. Benrahma is the player in question, having enjoyed a fruitful season with Brentford last year.

The Algerian was a key part of the Bees squad that reached the play-off final, only to lose out to Fulham. But like fellow attacker Ollie Watkins – who joined Aston Villa in the summer – he could leave the club to take a step up.

According to an earlier report from 90min on Saturday, West Ham have made a bid for Benrahma worth £17m.

Now, Sky Sports suggest that a deal is close, with the two clubs in “advanced talks”. The agreement could in fact be worth up to £30m.

Sky add that Benrahma has also attracted interest from London rivals Crystal Palace, but it seems like West Ham are in pole position.

Benrahma to replace Anderson?

The 25-year-old has not started a Championship game for Brentford yet this season, amid transfer speculation that has also seen him linked with Arsenal and Leeds. He did, however, score a brace against Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

West Ham view Benrahma as a replacement for Felipe Anderson, who left the club earlier this month to join Porto on loan.

In fact, Benrahma has been linked with the Hammers ever since they sold academy graduate Grady Diangana to West Brom. Now, the move may finally be making progress.
